World's Tallest Man Gets Married

July 25th 2007 02:30
Bao Xishun (also known as Xi Shun or "The Mast") (born 1951) is a herdsman from Inner Mongolia and, since January 15, 2005, has been recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's tallest living man.

Measured at 2.361 metres (7 ft 8.95 in) tall at the Chifeng City Hospital, Bao Xishun has no growth disorder like gigantism — unlike the tallest man ever, Robert Wadlow, and the tallest living man claimants, Leonid Stadnyk and Ajaz Ahmed. Stadnyk and Ahmed claim a height of 2.54 metres (8 ft 4 in), but their claims are controversial, and not currently accepted by Guinness. One other, Vikas Uppal, has claimed to be over 8 feet tall, but likewise this has not been independently verified. Bao suffers from rheumatism, although this has been attributed to his childhood habit of sleeping outdoors, rather than a height-linked disorder.

Bao Xishun claims to have been of normal height until he was 16 when he experienced a growth spurt for unknown reasons and reached his present height seven years later. Bao served in the People's Liberation Army for three years, and played for the army basketball team until his rheumatism began to appear.

Bao Xishun married saleswoman Xia Shujian (5 ft 6) on 24 March 2007. At the time they got married, Beijing News said that "Bao's 28-year-old bride is half his age and hailed from his hometown of Chifeng. The authentic Mongolian ceremony took place on July 12, 2007 at Genghis Khan holiday resort on the grasslands near Ordos city (sponsored by at least 15 companies). Bao was draped in a shimmering blue silk coat, and guests ate lamb and cheese. Photos of the traditional Mongolian ceremony are below, you can see more here.

Fly Powered Plane

July 5th 2007 07:23
Build Your Very Own Powered Model Aircraft. Using a razor blade, carefully split a match. Mare sure that you leave some of the sulphur, as it will be the nose of your aircraft.

Build the frame by gluing match sticks together. You can build a bigger wind of lighter wood and fit even more engines. Use your imagination!

Catch a couple of flies. Put them in a glass pot and put the pot in the freezer. In a couple of seconds the flies will be quite cold and motionless. Don't cool down your engines too much - it will kill them. If you put them in the refrigerator instead, it will take longer.

While you're waiting for your engines to get cold and stiff, drop some contact glue on the places where you want to place your engines.

Take your flies from the refrigerator/freezer. Place them on the pre-fitted glue pools.

Breathe warm air on the flies. A miracle is happening! Your flies that were frozen a moment ago are now coming back to life again.

Start the plane. If you did things correctly, it will fly! Sit back and enjoy watching the happy flies playing with the plane! None of them will have experienced anything like this before. ENJOY!

If you follow these instructions to the letter, this is the result!

Wonder if it actually flies?
