Because they remind us of ourselves!

Painted Animals

I don't know why anyone would want to use a sheep or cow as a canvas, but it happens as evidenced by the photos below.
I wonder what function red sheep serve??

Animals Yawning

March 21st 2007 10:22
A yawn is a reflex of deep inhalation and exhalation associated with being tired, with a need to sleep, or from lack of stimulation. Pandiculation is the term for the act of stretching and yawning. Yawning is a powerful non-verbal message with several possible meanings, depending on the circumstances. It is also claimed to help increase the state of alertness of a person. The exact causes of yawning are still unknown.

Humans and animals alike all yawn, below are some photos of animals in the act. Many more pictures here

Giant pandas are among the world's most adored and protected rare animals. There are only about 1-3000 Pandas left in the wild. Breeding programs and nurseries like the one you can see below are helping to save these adorable animals.

What Can a Beaver Do?

January 21st 2007 10:46
Beavers are best known for their natural trait of building dams in rivers and streams, and building their homes (aka lodges) in the eventual artificial pond. They are the second-largest rodent in the world (after the capybara).
The pictures below show the size of the trees beavers can fall using their powerful incisor teeth.

Pet Rhinoceros

November 22nd 2006 03:35
Rhinoceroses are arguably one of the deadliest creatures upon the earth to humans. In India and Nepal, rhinos cause the greatest number of wildlife-related human deaths each year.

Why then would you want one as a pet? Well apparently they can be quite friendly and affectionate, especially when they're young as the photos below demonstrate. I'm not sure if it would be legal to keep one these days. They look like a fun pet to have, although I imagine they could become dangerous when adults, especially the males. Some more pictures of the pet Rhino here

Stuffed Animals - Taxidermy

October 12th 2006 07:36
Taxidermy (Greek for "the arrangement of the skin") is the art of mounting or reproducing animals for display or study. This is a practice generally done with vertebrates, but occasionally with invertebrate animals such as insects. The methods that taxidermists practice have been improved over the last century, heightening taxidermic quality.

Taxidermists may practice professionally, for museums, or as amateurs, such as hobbyists, hunters, and fishermen. To practice taxidermy, one must be extremely familiar with anatomy, dissection, sculpture, and painting, as well as tanning. An overactive imagination could perhaps be added to that list of requirements as the pictures below demonstrate. This is what you call taxidermy with a difference
