The Numbers Behind Bacon

May 3rd 2010 01:30
Business Week called bacon “the most politically incorrect food in the culinary world”. The Talmud and Koran prohibit eating bacon (or at least bacon made from pork) and we all know that it is loaded with animal fat, nitrates and salt. But it tastes so good! Despite the many health conscious messages and healthier food options on menus these days, consumption of bacon continues to rise.

So how much bacon is consumed in the modern world anyway? What percentage of households have bacon and how many pigs sacrifice themselves to feed our obsession with the delicious crispy?

The answers to all this and more are found in the info-graphic below which lays out the number behind bacon.
