The Rolling Bridge in London

October 10th 2008 11:22
The Rolling Bridge is a curling bridge built in 2004 as part of the Grand Union Canal office & retail development project at Paddington Basin, London.
When extended, the bridge looks like an ordinary footbridge, however to allow a boat to pass it can curl up into a ball where all its sides touch.
Thanks to toxel.com for these images of the London Rolling Bridge.

Unsafe Bridge

This is not the safest looking bridge, and not the most stable looking support.
If you had to drive over it, would you move very slowly or very fast?

Insanity the ride. Stratosphere hotel Las Vegas

On top of the Stratosphere Hotel in Las Vegas you will find the highest thrill rides in the world. Including Insanity which dangles you over the edge (900 ft, 274m above the ground) and then spins you around at high speed.
Highest amusement park in the world - Stratosphere Hotel Las Vegas

Why not check out the Stratosphere next time your in Vegas?
If Insanity is too tame for you there's always XScream - A giant see saw which sends you teetering over the edge, or Big Shot - A free fall drop tower which at (1,081ft, 329 m) is the highest thrill ride in the world.

World's Deepest Swimming Pool

December 14th 2006 03:47
Nemo 33 is a recreational diving center in Brussels, Belgium that is home to the world's deepest swimming pool. The pool itself consists of a submerged structure with flat platforms at various depth levels. The pool has two large flat-bottomed areas at depth levels of 5m (16 ft) and 10m (32 ft), and a large circular pit descending to a depth of 33m (108 ft). It is filled with 2,500,000 litres of non-chlorinated, highly filtered spring water maintained at 30°C (86°F) and contains several simulated underwater caves at the 10m depth level. There are numerous underwater windows that allow outside visitors to look into the pools at various depths. The complex was designed by Belgian diving expert John Beernaerts as a multi-purpose diving instruction, recreational, and film production facility, and opened in 2004.

Below are some pictures of Nemo 33, more can be seen here

Abandoned Prison

October 20th 2006 06:56
There are many abandoned prisons around the world. Some of them become tourist attractions, i.e. Fremantle Gaol, some turn into housing estates, i.e. Pentridge Prison, and some even become museums and places where people meet to tell ghost stories i.e. Old Melbourne Gaol. Others however, are just left plain abandoned, perhaps only visited by neighbourhood kids or those that enjoy the eerie feel. The prison below is one of those, more pictures here.

Image of Hope

August 23rd 2006 05:53
I believe in these difficult and mean-spirited times in which we live there needs to be a message of hope. Just a single image that speaks to us of love, harmony, peace and joy. An image that suggests the universal brotherhood of man. I have found that image, and I ask that you take a moment to be inspired by it.
