Scale of the Universe

March 17th 2010 00:17
The Universe is generally described as encompassing everything we perceive to physically exist, the entirety of space and time plus all forms of matter and energy.

The Universe is so large that it's very difficult if not impossible to grasp the concept of its enormity. However, just as the Universe is unimaginably large, there are other forms of matter just as inconceivably small.

This page at PrimaxStudio attempts to put everything in our Universe into perspective, from the largest to the smallest objects including ourselves. It's a very well done application and an exciting ride to go down. Click here and you will see what I mean!

Crack In Airplane Window

Crack in airline window....unbelievable!!!!!

This is scary for anyone who travels frequently by plane!!!!
Actual crack in a US Airways DC-9 window frame! Fliers beware of the sub standard maintenance on the airplanes that you fly on. This is an actual crack that was found in the window frame on a DC-9. I'll definitely think twice before flying USAir.

UFOs

April 23rd 2008 09:04
Modern UFO reports began around the time of World War 2. Many tens of thousands of UFO reports have since been made.

UFOs have been spotted in many different places around the world and may later be identified after investigation. About 90% of all UFOs are later identified.
But what about the 10% that remain a mystery? The pictures today show some photos of UFOs from the last couple of years. You can see many more UFO pictures at ufocasebook.com.

Keep Things in Perspective

Keeping things in perspective - it's rather dazzling to see it presented this way.

Earth, Venus, Mars, Mercury, Pluto

All the planets showing relative size. Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Earth, Venus, Mars, Mercury, Pluto

Relative size of the sun compared to the planets

Beyond our Sun, it's a big universe...

Sun, Sirius, Pollux, Arcturus - Showing comparative sizes to scale

Sun, Sirius, Pollux, Arcturus, Rigel, Aldebaran, Betelgeuse, Antares

Antares is the 15th brightest star in the sky. It is more than 1000 light years away.

Now try to wrap your mind around this...
This is a Hubble Telescope ultra deep field infrared view of countless entire galaxies billions of light-years away.

Hot Air Balloons

August 17th 2006 06:05
Hot air balloons are the oldest successful human flight technology, dating back to the Montgolfier brothers' invention in Annonay, France in 1783. The first flight carrying humans was made on November 21, 1783, in Paris

Hot air balloon festivals are held annually throughout the year, and give a chance for balloonists to participate in balloon races and display their balloons during evening balloon glows. Balloon festivals are a good opportunity for people to showcase their "special shape" balloons. These hot air balloons use the same principle of lift as conventional inverted teardrop shaped balloons but often sections of the special balloon envelope shape make no contribution to the balloon's ability to stay afloat. They have been produced in great variety and with eye-popping invention and wit, such as the ones pictured below
